Fruits of the Spirit Youth Garden       

We grow produce locally and provide it as available for a free-will donation.   Proceeds go to help fund youth mission trips.

No more corn available :(  Sure was good though.   Raspberries are winding down but with good weather may get a second burst in September.

Available this week (9/27/10):  Red, white, gold potatoes; green cabbage; red cabbage; green, red, yellow peppers; yellow sweet banana peppers; broccoli;  squash;  zucchini;  cucumbers;  bunching onions;  tomatoes.

Items will be available at church from 3 PM - 9 PM Wednesdays, and on Sunday mornings.  Please tell your neighbors and friends!   Sales will continue at least through September.

Youth should meet at the garden on Saturdays and Tuesdays at 6:30 to harvest and do other tasks. 

From this point on, everyone is encouraged to visit the garden and do weeding or watering as they are able, and as the garden needs it.  Garden tools are in the small white shed near the red gate to the garden.  

Garden historical blog:

Sept - Harvests on Saturdays and Tuesday continue until frost.   Very ample rainfall and very good tomatoes, onions, peppers continue to be produced.  Broccoli and cabbage making a comeback in the cooler weather.  Strawberry plants looking awesome for next year.

Aug 25 - Veggie stand at church, Mari, Mitch, Bryan ran the store.   $154 was taken in, moving our total to over $2000 for the year!

Aug 24 - Mona and Hannah Geise, Katrina Wessel, Jacob Wessel, Bryan, Alex and Diane Gatzlaff, James Earley and Curt harvested corn, tomatoes, beans, broccoli, one watermelon, carrots, onions.

Aug 23 - Curt weeded and rototilled the strawberries and raspberries

Aug 23 - Sunday morning sales of around $130 again

Aug 22 - Curt and Jacob Wessel  harvested peppers, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, melons, corn, broccoli, lettuce.

Aug 18 - Paul, Jena, Jodie, Alysha staff the produce stand.   Around $65 taken in.

Aug 17 - JD Runtsch, Curt, James Earley pick tomatoes, beans, lettuce, more.  Many weeds pulled.  First red sweet peppers harvested.

Aug 15 - Sunday morning sales of around $130.

Aug 14 - Jacob and Kat Wessel, Curt, Jacob and Heidi Goetz, John and Myrna Mattison, and lots of Gerbers were present for harvesting.   Corn, lots of potatoes, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, cukes and more were harvested. 

Aug 8-15 : Donated corn and other veggies to IHN this week.

Aug 11 - Theresa, Bryan, Mari worked the veggie stand.   Raspberries from Curt's garden were featured, and we took in around $130.   Total for the year is now over $1200.

Aug 11 - Curt went out in the morning and picked corn and a few other items.   Still lots of potatoes and others from last harvest.  Picked about 5 doz corn.

Aug 10 - Storming at the garden, can't do harvesting.   Rain = 2.0"

July 31 - Picked sweet corn from batch #2; green peppers, potatoes, great broccoli from planting #2; cucumbers.   Planted radishes, lettuce, beets.

July 28 - Sweet corn available for the first time, roughly 12 dozen were sold.

July 25:  Total sales for the year now over $700!

July 14 -24 : Youth Gathering team gone.  Langfords, Wessels and others harvested and ran the veggie stands.

July 10 - Harvest night.  Mattisons, Geises, Katrina Wessel, James Earley, Bryan Boger, all the Gerber clan present.  Harvested beets, beans, potatoes, lettuce, broccoli, turnips, weeded and suckered second corn batch.

July 9 - Goetz family picked beans, peppers, carrots.

July 8 - Curt tilled and weeded, built some experimental tomato supports.

July 6 - Curt planted some kohl rabi and red cabbage plants, plus cabbage seeds and zucchini seeds.  Watered last week's new plantings.

July 3 - Rototilled more ground, planted potatoes, bunching onion, head lettuce, romaine lettuce.  Harvested beets, rutabegas, romaine, head lettuce, brocoli, 2 zuchini, 2 cucumbers.

July 2 - Alysha and Lorrie Langford, Curt & Bryan Boger, James Earley, Brian Kressin, Jon St Peter - Weeded and tilled pretty much all of the main garden.  Watered newer plantings.   Had fight with onions,  checked out Killdeer nest in the Raspberry patch.

June 27 - $53 in sales at Sunday Morning farmers market.

June 26 - Curt rototilled more of the unused area, preparing for more crops.   Along with Gerbers, harvested beets, turnips, broccoli, potatoes.

June 25 - Weeding team of Mikaela Lechner, Kathy and Mitch Johnson, John Mattison, Reed Miller, Curt, Mona Geise, Tim Gerber, Jackson Gerber, Tug Gerber made it all the way through the corn patch, weeding and suckering.   Also planted 48 tomato plants from Tim's greenhouse.

June 24 - .4 inches rain since June 20.  Curt tilled area where Al ran the cultivator.   Planted pumpkins, melons, beets, bunching onion, sweet potatoes.    Goetz family worked on weeding corn patch.

June 22 - Julie Folkert and Curt worked on weeding and planting.  Planted pumpkins, bunching onions, more cukes, melons, broc from seed. 

June 20 - First garden sales at church.  Broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, radishes, chard (some from Boger and Gerber gardens)

June 19 - Gerbers and Curt work on corn patch, weeding and suckering.  Picked radishes, broccoli for Sunday sales

June 18 - Heavy Thunderstorm, too muddy to work.  2.25" rain

June 18 - Dropped off gas can and rototiller, .8 inches rain since June 11.

une 16 - Gatzlaffs and St Peters worked on weeds in main garden.

June 11 .8 inches rain since June 7.   Curt tilled and weeded, planted more broccoli, jalapenos.  new strawberries looking good.

June 7 - Curt rototilled and then replanted 150 strawberry plants.  Added 10 raspberry plants.  .8 inches of rain since June 3

June 3 - Curt planted jalapenos, more cabbages, replanted another row of potatoes that never sprouted with Yukon Golds, honeydew melons.

June 2 - .1 inch of rain

June 1 - 1/2 inch of rain

May 29 - 31 : Curt - Replanted potatoes in first row that never sprouted.   Tilled between first 3 rows, hoed between plants in those rows.  Watered raspberries and plants.

Week ending May 28 :  Wessels, Goetz's, Gerbers - Finished corn planting!  Planted all leftover peppers and tomatoes, kept water on raspberries and strawberries

May 20:  Curt, Chris and Cindy Wessel.  Planted 16 raspberry plants from Curt's patch.   Planted numerous tomatoes, peppers, broccoli.  Watered tomatoes, onions, strawberries, peppers, broccoli.  

May 16: Curt, Jackson, Tim, JT, Jace, Katrina, James, Jacob, Bryan, All the Gatzlaffs, Julie Folkert were present.   Corn patch was prepared and 4 rows planted.  More potatoes and onions were planted, 1 row of beans planted,  several tomato and pepper plants were put in.   4 rows of strawberries put in.  Boys swung from rope hanging out the barn window.  Beans were thrown at each other and water fights ensued.

April 29:  Gerbers, Curt, Bryan, Mari, Jacob Wessel planted rows 4,5,6 beets, carrots, turnips, rutabeggas, kohl rabi, more onions, potatoes

April 27: Gerbers and Curt prepped and planted rows 1,2,3 : potatoes, onions, cabbage
