Youth Faith Adventures 2010

In the summer of 2010, Holy Cross Youth Ministry will be offering 2 unique chances for youth and adults to build up their faith.

The goal of these trips is the faith growth of the participants.   This experience starts right now, and the preparations are as vital as the trip itself to reaching that goal.

Latest Report

The Team is back!

Here is a story from Joy...

I had an amazing experience, plus a few bumps along the way which in turn, ended up being God Sightings.   As soon as we pulled into the school, red shirt staff was there greeting us with signs, jumping up and down and cheering us on, that was neat.

On with my testimony: Sunday night I met my crew.  I had another adult with me, which was nice. 3 were from SC and 2 from NC.  We all got along so well.  Our resident is super sweet. She was so appreciative for what we were doing for her.  She let us sit around her table, with A/C, and ate our lunch while watching Law & Order,  then we did devotions and Evelyn would always join us.  Our job was to paint 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, caulk around the outside windows and fix her utility door.

I encountered 3 God Sightings during my trip

First one:  My truck broke down, thankfully in a parking lot and not on the highway. My steering wheel pump went out and if I would have been driving, there would have been an accident for sure.

Second one:  Kyria ended up in the E.R., luckily it was during camp and nothing too serious where she'd have to spend the night in the hospital or it happened enroute to camp or on the way home.

Third one: My crew was awesome, didn't have to tell them what to do, they always asked what they could do next.  My other adult leader went to Ace Hardware store for an electric saw, when he went to check out, the clerk asked if he was part of the work camp group, Craig said yes and she told him, Merry Christmas.

Everyone was so friendly and hospitable.  We were all taken care of real good with water and snacks, etc.

Our fun activities, were great!  The cabin in Gatlinburg, TN ( I call it a mansion), was awesome including the view of the smoky mountains.

Whitewater Rapids were fun, but also a bit scary for me.  I fell in and drifted out a bit and struggled to stay afloat and I was even ready for the rope and I ended up grabbing a paddle from another raft and they pulled me in.  I lost one shoe and my paddle.  We were all recovered.  So, I guess we could say that was another God Sighting that I made it back in the raft.  I was a bit panicky…..

Special thanks to Patty, for taking Kyria and I to the ER, and staying up almost all night.

Even though we had a lot of bumps in the road, God was preparing us for something, I'm still trying to figure it out yet…I had an awesome time!  I still want to go again next year.

A big thanks to my crew #13, my resident Evelyn and all the adult leaders and youth that supported Kyria and I when we missed a few days at camp.

Also a big thank you to Alysha and Kali,, they moved our suitcases, beds and everything else to a different building for a night so we could rest and the girls could sleep too!

I praise God that I was able to serve others, was taken care of thru others and being there for us all!
AMEN!

 Participant Covenant

With God’s help and the encouragement of the other team members,

  • I will work hard to get to know the other team members as well as I can.  I will show them nothing but love and respect.  I will go out of my way to make them feel welcome and loved.

  • Since sacrifices will be required of everyone, I will be willing to make them myself.  I understand that there will be times when my own schedule must be altered to allow me to take part in a fundraiser or a prep meeting.

  • I will be a contributing, positive, encouraging,  proactive member of the team as we prepare.

  • I will do my best to take part in regular youth ministry activities since these will be the main chance to get to know the other team members, get updates about the trip, help plan fundraisers, etc.
